How Are We Different?

The Pezim Clinic is different in the following ways:

• We see patients FAST! Usually within a week or two or even the same day if the problem is urgent. We have saved thousands of years of patient waiting!
• Dr. Pezim is a specialist Colorectal (Mayo Clinic) and General Surgeon (UBC), a Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at UBC, and a Fellow of both the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada and the American College of Surgeons.
• The team at the Pezim Clinic provides customized individual care and aims for extreme quality.
• We have world-class low complication rates.
• The Pezim Clinic is not associated with or funded by any equipment or drug manufacturer so we are free to use whatever device or medication best fits your problem.
• We maintain a wide variety of special pediatric equipment to minimize discomfort during examinations and treatment.
• While other clinics charge substantial amounts for care, all consultations and treatments (other than cosmetic anal surgery) at the Pezim Clinic are covered by MSP and are no charge to patients.  There are non-medical doctor  ‘hemorrhoid clinics’ in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland that are charging thousands of dollars for services that are totally covered by MSP at our clinic.
• The Pezim Clinic is not a hemorrhoid banding mill!  Our treatments are individualized according to the needs of each individual patient.  Banding is just one form of treatment, it is not the right treatment for everyone.  For some patients it is very effective.  For others it will never work and is completely wrong.  At the Pezim Clinic, an accurate diagnosis is made first, and discussed with the patient.  This often entails drawings to explain the diagnosis.  Then treatment options are discussed carefully. Many patients referred to us as ‘hemorrhoids’ are actually suffering from something else, so an accurate diagnosis is critical.  If banding is recommended, the potential complications are discussed with the patient so they can make an informed decision if they wish to undergo the treatment.  An opportunity for learning abut the procedure online is often provided.  If the patient wishes to proceed, they will be banded carefully by Colorectal Surgeon Dr. Pezim only, in an unhurried manner, and under direct vision through a scope, and not banded blindly in a rushed way by a physician without surgical training.  At the Pezim Clinic we see patients almost every day who have been improperly banded or banded even though their actual diagnosis was clearly not a hemorrhoid problem at all.
